Overview We sat down with music producer J Roberts, co-owner of The Living Room—a multi-disciplinary creative studio nestled in Winston-Salem, NC. Designed as a true sanctuary for local artists and makers, The Living Room houses J’s dedicated music production suite, an active art studio, and an aesthetic, versatile space available for rental podcasts and photoshoots. In this conversation, J shares the collaborative journey behind building the space, his distinct philosophy on producing and guiding musicians, and tangible advice for up-and-coming creatives looking to turn their vision into reality.

Overview: A cinematic, multi-camera interview highlighting the journey, challenges, and long-term goals of UNCG film student Gavin Hoots. Inspired by the structural storytelling of Christopher Nolan, this piece dives deep into the realities of modern film school—from navigating intense peer critiques to adapting to the unpredictable nature of live sets.

Production Highlights: To capture Gavin’s story with a high-end, editorial aesthetic, the project was captured on a dual-camera setup utilizing the Nikon ZR and Nikon Z6III. Clean, intimate interview frames were captured on 50mm and 85mm prime lenses, while dynamic, fluid narrative B-roll was filmed using a 35mm lens paired with the DJI RS4 gimbal.

The visual tone was established through precise studio lighting, using a Nanlite 300 Bi-Color key light with a gridded rectangular softbox for rich, controlled contrast, complemented by a subtle RGB tube light background accent for depth and color separation. High-fidelity audio was captured via a Røde shotgun mic, delivering a polished, broadcast-ready final edit.
